ESSENTIAL OILS FOR SMOKY ODORS

Essential oils can work especially well to cut cigarette smoke. Their chemical compounds are clarifying, invigorating and fresh, but their powerful aroma helps cut through the smoke and smell by actually purifying the air, not just masking the offensive, unhealthy odors. As an added bonus, essential oils can also help to purify and lift both your spirit and mind while they're working hard to clear the air.

Can fake fragrance chemicals do that? No, in fact, they will most likely add more toxins into the air.

CLEARING THE AIR

First and foremost, you will need an essential oil diffuser. Essential oil diffusers disperse essential oils (highly concentrated extracts from flowers, leaves, and other plant parts) carried by micro water droplets into the surrounding air.

Into your diffuser, place 20 drops of essential oil. I prefer the following essential oils together - 10 drops each

For a refreshing, clarifying, uplifting scent, Lemon essential oil works well.

To purify and deodorize, Black Spruce essential oil is a very good choice.

Diffuse as often as needed.

If diffusing in your parked car, overnite is best. Be sure to crack the windows for air circulation.

TIP: You can also place a few drops of essential oils on your air filter in your HVAC system. With this method, aside from leaving a pleasant smell in the room, certain essential oils can also help kill microbes.

GET SMOKY SMELLS OUT OF YOUR RUG OR CARPET

Follow these instructions for carpets or rugs that smell smoky:

  • 2 cups of baking soda in a container
  • Add several drops of a citrus essential oil
  • Shake until thoroughly mixed
  • As you would use other carpet deodorizers, use this mixture (sprinkle on areas where smoke has permeated and let it settle for a few hours)
  • Vacuum until all traces of baking soda have been removed
