Everyday! Morning Detox Tea

This is a quick post about a morning tea I've "learned" to love on my 2014  journey to detoxify my body, lose weight and embrace a healthier relationship with food and life!  Jill Samter "strongly" suggested I drink this every morning before anything else (yes, I still have my coffee).  I added a drop of cinnamon to my version and although it's an acquired taste this tea has grown on me! Drinking a cup of warm water first thing is beneficial because cold water must go through the process of warming up and doesn't have the same stimulating effects.   Warm water triggers an immediate hydration process.

This is how a Morning Detox tea jumpstarts the lymphatic system:  Lemon stimulates the lymphatic system to remove the toxins accumulated in the lymph glands, colon, and bladder overnight. Adding ginger further helps in elimination of waste through the colon and studies have shown that it provides protection against the development of cancer cells and polyps. Lemon and ginger in water is so beneficial in cleansing the liver. Chronic dehydration, a problem in our society, leads to stress on the adrenal glands leading to adrenal fatigue.  Starting your day with a mug (or jar) of Morning Detox Tea is an everyday detox that helps you flush toxins, nourish your adrenals, and boost your metabolism. Lemon helps to bring the body to an alkaline state which helps to calm chronic inflammation, a culprit of autoimmune diseases and illnesses with immune factors such as rheumatoid arthritis, and fibromyalgia.

Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and can be used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and various other muscular disorders and has been proven to be an effective form of treatment, in some cases, even more so than NSAIDs traditionally prescribed. Cinnamon is also an anti-inflammatory, an appetite suppressant and, research has shown it to be effective in leveling blood sugar levels, particularly for type 2 diabetes.

ACV or Apple Cider Vinegar (organic) is a wonder too!  An all purpose tonic that soothes digestion and acid reflux. In a 2009 study published in Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry, it was found that subjects that consumed acetic acid for 12 weeks experienced significant declines in body weight, abdominal fat, waist circumference and triglycerides. Triglycerides contribute to the bad cholesterol that we want to avoid.  This miracle vinegar helps to break up mucous throughout the body and cleanse the lymph nodes. Believe it or not, research suggests that apple cider vinegar can help with allergies because of its ability to reduce mucous and sinus congestion. When reducing the effects of allergies, it can also help stave off sinus infections and their related symptoms, such as sore throats and headaches.

Most people have used honey to sweeten, but few realize that it’s a powerful food, beauty aide and a topical antibiotic. Honey naturally contains 18 amino acids, plus small amounts of a many vitamins and minerals. The old wives’ tales we hear are actually often based in truth, as honey has been used in folk medicine for thousands of years.  Use raw, organic honey whenever possible!  If you can find local honey, you'll help your body's ability to reduce seasonal allergies. Like me, you might need a little time to get used to this beverage first thing every morning but give it a chance as you can see, the health benefits are worth it!  It's tea time!
