Your Winter Skin Barrier Routine, the Natural Way

Cold air outside, dry heat inside, hot showers and chapped hands from all that washing. Winter asks a lot of our skin. If your face feels tight by midday, your hands look rough or your lips never seem to stay soft, your skin barrier is probably asking for a little extra support.

Your skin barrier is the outermost layer of your skin. When it is well nourished, it holds in moisture and keeps skin feeling soft and comfortable. When it is stressed, skin can feel dry, tight and easily irritated. The good news is that a simple, nourishing routine can make a real difference.

Why Skin Gets So Dry in Winter

  • Low humidity. Cold air holds less moisture, and indoor heating dries the air even more.

  • Hot showers. They feel wonderful on a cold day, but hot water strips away the natural oils your skin needs.

  • Wind and cold. Exposed skin on the face, lips and hands takes the brunt of it.

  • More hand washing. Cold and flu season means more washing and sanitizing, which leaves hands rough and chapped.

Our Winter Skin Favorites

#1 Whipped Tallow Cream

This is our richest moisturizer and a true winter hero. Made with grass-fed, grass-finished tallow, jojoba and emu oil, it closely mirrors the natural oils of our own skin, so it absorbs beautifully. It is infused with Rose Otto, Helichrysum and Blue Cypress. Use it on your face, neck, hands or anywhere that feels dry and depleted.

Ultimate Skin Serum

A lightweight, concentrated serum that delivers deep hydration and nutrients. Apply a few drops before your moisturizer to layer in extra nourishment and help with the look of fine lines and dullness.

Rose Cream

A softer, lighter option made with coconut oil, Moroccan argan oil, rosehip seed oil, raw shea butter, vitamin E and Rose Otto. Lovely for daytime when you want moisture without heaviness.

Anti Age Salve with Rose

A rich salve with Lavender, Frankincense, Cypress and Rose Otto in a base of coconut, olive and rosehip seed oils. We love it as an overnight treatment for extra dry spots.

Beauty Balm Flower Stick

Our "take it with you" beauty balm in a big half ounce push-up tube. Keep one in your purse, car and nightstand for dry hands, rough cuticles, chapped lips, elbows and any spot that needs a little love on the go. It is one of the easiest winter habits you can build.

A Simple Winter Routine

Morning

  1. Rinse your face with lukewarm water, not hot.

  2. While skin is still slightly damp, press in a few drops of Ultimate Skin Serum.

  3. Follow with Rose Cream or a thin layer of Whipped Tallow Cream.

  4. Tuck a Flower Stick in your bag for hands and lips throughout the day.

Evening

  1. Cleanse gently and pat dry, leaving skin a little damp.

  2. Apply serum, then a more generous layer of Whipped Tallow Cream.

  3. Massage Anti Age Salve with Rose into any extra dry areas.

  4. Before bed, coat hands with the Flower Stick or salve and slip on cotton gloves for an overnight treatment.

Little Habits That Help

  • Moisturize on damp skin. It helps lock in water instead of letting it evaporate.

  • Run a humidifier in your bedroom overnight.

  • Keep showers short and warm, and moisturize right after.

  • Drink water. Winter dehydration sneaks up on us when we are not feeling thirsty.

  • Cover up. Gloves and a scarf protect hands and face from wind.
