Family Friendly Expectorant

It’s been a long cold and flu season already and many of us have been fighting chest and nasal congestion.  I have a notion you know what I’m talking about, constant coughing and you still can’t get the mucus to loosen up and leave you alone, argh!!   It’s annoying and uncomfortable but not to worry, I have just the remedy that's safe for the whole family to try. This is a multitasking blend of Marjoram, Frankincense and Lemon to be used topically and in the diffuser.  We do both!  I consider this combination of pure essential oils to be safe for little ones, in fact, in our family we use it on babies, toddlers, kids, teens and adults with predictable success.  Consider this remedy as one of those rare All Purpose Blends that's safe for all ages. Pure Frankincense is very gentle, more so than Lavender.  It has no known adverse effects yet it's an essential oil that stands out above all others for it's regenerative properties on a cellular level. Frankincense is a gentle sedative and a tonic to calm all systems: digestive, respiratory, nervous and excretory systems. It also may assist the absorption of nutrients and strengthen the immune system.

"The monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes are the most valuable elements of frankincense oil. According to the book Reference Guide for Essential Oils by Connie and Alan Higley, monoterpenes help prevent and discharge toxins from your liver and kidneys, and have antiseptic, antibacterial, stimulating, analgesic (weak), and expectorant properties. Meanwhile, sesquiterpenes can go beyond the blood-brain barrier and simulate the limbic system of your brain, as well as your hypothalamus, and pineal and pituitary glands."

Pure Marjoram essential oil might reduce the pain associated with colds, fevers, inflammation, overexertion of muscles, toothaches, headaches and numerous other sources. Marjoram is also without adverse side effects, unlike other analgesic pain relievers available on the market.  Marjoram might help ease spasms in the respiratory system and intestines, and muscular spasms in the limbs. The essential oil has been shown to give relief from mucus and phlegm in the throat and sinuses, and congestion of the nasal tract, larynx, pharynx, bronchi and lungs due to colds and viral infections. It's really nice in the diffuser for a chronic cough.

Pure Lemon essential oil might stimulate white blood cells, increasing the body's ability to fight off diseases. Lemon might improve circulation and open nasal passages and sinuses, promoting good air flow and steady breathing.

Remember, don't forget to diffuse when you're battling congestion, it's an easy way to gently treat the whole family and keep the air free of airborne pathogens.  A good diffuser is one of the best home health devices out there, in my opinion!

Directions
  1. Combine equal parts of Frankincense, Marjoram and Lemon in a dark, glass bottle. Store without added carrier oil for diffusing. Add CW Naked Salve or your favorite carrier to the blend when applying topically, only a small amount needed.
  2. Apply 3 drops of the blend to chest and back as needed, massage in. Remember, applying less, more often is better than applying more, less often! Diffuse too!
