Organic Root Stimulating Serum A Natural Alternative to Minoxidil for Thinning Hair

Organic Root Stimulating Serum A Natural Alternative to Minoxidil for Thinning Hair

Inspired by a US Patent Application Publication - a natural alternative to minoxidil.

First of all, I want to disclose that the following formula is my version of the Human Hair Root Stimulator using Emu Oil to Deliver Specific Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils to the Hair Follicles:  Pub. No.: US 2009/0186095 A1.   "Organic Root Stimulating Serum" is my own formula but contains the essential oils and emu oil as directed in the study.  No ratios were published, the ratios used are my own.

SOURCE:

Please refer to the link above to read the application in it's entirety, you'll learn why Emu Oil is the preferred carrier as well as why Rosemary, Lavender, Cedarwood and Thyme were the chosen therapeutic grade essential oils.  Fascinating stuff!!

Serum Formula - CW Version

Using a dropper, add the following to a 15ml bottle:
18 drops Rosemary (Rosmarimus officinalis)
18 drops Lavender (Lavendula augustifolia)
18 drops Cedarwood (Cedrus atlantica)
18 drops Thyme (Thymus vulgaris)
Top off the bottle with 100% pure refined organic Emu Oil.
Emu oil is fat extracted from the backs of emu birds that is rendered into a stable oil by heat. The refined oil's composition is almost 100% triglyceride lipid, giving it the following qualities: skin penetrating, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, healing, moisturizing, non-irritating and non-comedogenic.

Notes from Publication:
  • "Due to their low molecular weight, essential oils are absorbed through the skin and hair follicles.  Absorption can take between 15 minutes and 12 hours.  However, most essential oils must be diluted in a carrier oil before being topically applied to the skin. The carrier oil used to dilute the essential oils directly affects the absorption rate of the mixture since some carrier oils are heavier than others."
  • "One carrier oil proven to effectively penetrate human skin and carry medicinal substances such as essential oils into the blood stream is Emu Oil."
root serum email 2 email

The publication suggests daily use of the serum, allowing it to penetrate the scalp up to 12 hours.  That may not be feasible for everyone including me! Happily the serum smells wonderful making bedtime application enjoyable.

To combat thinning hair from hypothyroid and genetic predisposition, I apply serum to the front of my hairline and top of scalp the night before I wash I my hair in the morning. On the alternate days...I apply very, very sparingly and use a natural dry shampoo for a little help absorbing the oil that inevitably coats strands of hair.

Hair loss or thinning of hair on face or other parts of the body due to Alopecia Areata: the serum can be applied topically to applicable areas on a daily basis.  Emu oil is an excellent moisturizer as well!

I don’t think pure Frankincense could hurt anything but, I’ve never used it in this particular blend so I can’t give you a definite answer on this one.

I thought I had read on Camp Wanderer at some point that Frankincense was good for hair growth as well. Do I have that wrong? If it is do you think it would hurt the mix synergistically?

Is there a particular reason that you mix the emu oil with these specific other oils? I have some of them, so I wonder if it would matter if I don’t put the cedarwood and thyme one in them mixuture?

Once a day if possible but it is greasy, you would need to wash your hair everyday. I apply 2 to 3x a week and it took two months to see a litte new growth.

I think this is definitely worth trying! I tried to copy/paste the article in my browser to read the study but nothing came up (actually, just this blog since it referenced the study). My question is this: does the blend require lifetime use to continuously experience results (like Rogaine)? Or, once desired results are achieved, can the usage be stopped completely without the risk of losing the regrowth of hair?

May 10, 2017

Add your essential oils to the bottle first, then top off the bottle with Emu oil. I’ve used at least 3 different brands of organic emu oil and have always been able to pour it. You may have to take the top off to make it easier to pour. Once you fill your bottle, seal the top with your finger tip and tip the bottle back and forth to blend. Put a lid or a dropper on and you’re good to go.

May 10, 2017

Thank you so much Rebecca. I am having results with this. I didn’t take pictures because I only have about a half an inch of hair growth due to shaving my head 2 months ago. It’s one thing to be bald it’s another to advertise it.

My sparse spots have 1/8" or maybe a little shorter coming in. Not all of the sparse spots but enough to be encouraged because it’s one of the ones in the front. That’s after almost 3 weeks. I am now trying it on my eyebrows too. I have my husband check my head everyday because I’m afraid of the psoriasis coming back. I use Bragg’s ACV everday but I’m still paranoid about it.

I can’t tell you how grateful I am to have found yours and Jillee’s blogs. I got Hashimoto’s after my second child and was told many women who have late in life pregnancies get thyroid problems. I had my children in my 40’s. I started losing my hair like crazy ever since to a point that I hated showering for the amount of hair I would find in the drain.

Thankfully, I never had complete bald spots just sparse spots and I guess that’s why this is working for me. I was told by my endocrinologist that my hair might never come back even if we do manage to get my thyroid regulated.

Thank you for doing what you do, I’m sure you’ve helped a lot of people. God Bless.

Sincerely, Terri

May 10, 2017

Thank you so much for this post. I suffered with scalp psoriasis for years and recently went through a very stressful time so my occasional patches morphed into it covering most of my head. I hated to use all of the tar smelling shampoos and started looking into natural remedies. I shaved my head and I alternated using apple cider vinegar, extra virgin coconut oil and tea tree oil a few times a day and within 3 days the scaley build up was gone.

That was a month ago. I thankfully don’t have any completely bald spots but I do have quite a few spots that look lighter than the rest and was very concerned about it until I saw your post. I’m going to give it a try. I recently started using EO’s to treat my Hashimoto’s and my husband’s high blood pressure so I have the oils needed to make this remedy.

Thanks so much to you and your sister, I’m a fan of both of your blogs. You put some much needed information out there. I tried getting information on some other blogs about helping my husband’s HBP and most of those blogs will only give you information if you agree to become a member and buy those really expensive oils, which I cannot afford. I’m going to whip up a batch tonight.

Thanks again,

Terri

Hi Rebecca, I am in my late 20’s and I noticed in September the back-top of my head has begun thinning. I came across your formula and have started using in October and proceeded to apply it about 5 times a week during the evenings before bed. I was curious if you knew roughly how long it would take before I start noticing positive results? It’s hard for me to tell right now but from what I have been reading from the other comments people were receiving results after a few months.

Thanks!

I just saw a post on this and am interested in trying since after chemo I have been left with very little hair. Don’t know if I have all the oils at this point. I noticed someone asked about the YL oils because she was having problems with red patches after using. I would suggest using more carrier oil or less EOs. It is usually recommended to dilute EOs if they irritate you.
