Acid Reflux Relief

Acid Reflux is nobody's friend.  Although it's extremely common it's also very uncomfortable.  Our stomach is designed to handle harsh stomach acid but our esophagus is not.  As the stomach acid flows back up the esophagus it burns, leaves a horrible taste in your mouth and wreaks havoc on your throat and mouth if you experiencing Acid Reflux on a regular basis.

Hopefully, you'll think about reaching for a natural alternative before an "over the counter" option.  There are several good natural choices available like organic Apple Cider Vinegar but, speaking for myself I can hardly stand the thought of drinking acidic ACV after an episode of Acid Reflux!  Essential oils work great for a lot of people too but I have a favorite "hunch" that's been working for me and now there's research to explain "why"!  I can't wait to share it with you because it's so easy and so good for you too.

Doctors now believe that a bacteria called Helico Pylori (H. Pylori) inhabits the stomach and the esophagus. This bacteria stimulates cells in the stomach to produce excessive amounts of gastric or hydrochloric acid which can encourage the stomach acid back out and up into the esophagus.  For this misery, many doctors will readily suggest 3 things:

  1. Over the counter meds
  2.  Acid Blockers
  3.  Antibiotics

Costly, time consuming and largely ineffective. Now for the interesting part, the solution!  I've been using Coconut oil every which way I can lately because of it's rich nutrients.  It seemed a natural choice when I woke up in the middle of the night with A.R.  I reached for the jar of my favorite organic coconut oil and, my bottle of pure Frankincense to help with the inflammation going on. I added 1 drop of Frankincense to 1 teaspoon of organic coconut oil and swallowed it.  All the burning and the foul taste in my mouth just went away and I was able to go back to sleep.  I now keep a small jar of whipped coconut oil and Frankincense pre-blended just for convenience.

Acid Reflux Relief - A natural remedy for Acid Reflux with Coconut Oil and Frankincense
Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup organic coconut oil
  • 24 drops Frankincense
  • Whip coconut oil until soft, add essential oil and stir well. Store in a clean glass jar.
Instructions
  1. First sign of Acid Reflux, swallow a teaspoon of: Acid Reflux Relief

Before I end this, I'm leaving you with an informative article written by Dr. Sanford Pinna regarding Coconut oil and it's anti-biotic properties.  "Coconut oil is made of saturated fatty acids of the medium length variety. Its major Saturated Acid is called LAURIC ACID. The Lauric Acid invades the cell wall and destroys it."  This is why I LOVE using high quality organic coconut oil along with pure essential oils, they're both a powerful and complimentary of one another!

Pure Frankincense is pure amazing for inflammation and there’s a lot of that going on in the gut if acid reflux or GERD is a problem. Pure Frankincense is an anti-inflammatory much like a natural NSAID, it’s also very gentle and safe for children as well. Of course, diet is very important too!

Hi! I love your blog – it’s wonderful to have such a great go-to site for natural remedies! I love using coconut oil in all areas of my life but it had never occurred to me to try it for acid reflux. My husband and my nine year old daughter both frequently suffer from it and her doctor recommended Zantac but I’d much rather try the coconut oil. I was wondering though, what is it about the Frankincense EO that contributes to the recipe and is it safe for someone her age?
Thanks!

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! I have been dealing with this for over 3 years and it is so miserable. ACV only seemed to make it worse. I cannot wait to try this!! Frankensence is my favorite oil right now, so many great uses and it smells wonderful. Again, thank you so much! So glad I found you!

Can’t wait to try this. Thanks for sharing. LOVE Frankincense! (Very important to use only a high quality brand of Frankincense, like Young Living, DoTerra, or Spark Naturals. Other brands may do more harm than good!)

I’m eager to try this. I’ve gone the Prevacid route (Ì was under the impression that GERD was a life-long problem), and this looks like an easy, inexpensive and BETTER way.

But is this doctor you quote legitimate? He wrote that he took the Hoppocratic Oath … !

Hi, Great blog today! We take coconut oil by the tablet. I was wondering about the taste and texture of a spoonful of coconut oil could you elaborate a little on this? Thank you.

Since hearing about and trying Gold Label Virgin coconut oil from Tropical Traditions, I haven’t used anything else since. This coconut oil is hand processed and so smooth and good you can eat it with a spoon! This is my affiliate link if you’d like to explore it for yourself. There is no extra cost to you should you purchase and in fact, if you do make a purchase through this link, Tropical Traditions will send you a free book about the benefits of coconut oil.

Neither pure Frankincense or organic coconut oil are a risk, I would feel safe in trying this protocol. In fact, there are numerous studies praising the values of coconut oil for memory and brain health as well as oral health through oil pulling. I hope it works well for you too!

A resounding YES to this question Vera, Frankincense would be an excellent choice for you. Something to remember, pure Frankincense can also act as a driver. If you’re applying or layering several oils save Frankincense for last, this oil can drive all others deeper into tissue.

HI! I had the fun chance of meeting you and your sister at Sparks in Provo last Tuesday. It felt good to tell you in person how much I’ve enjoyed your blogs. You’ve given me a lot of good advice and remedys I’ve needed and been happy to receive. It’s been so helpful to learn more about essential oils and what I can do with them to help my life and my family’s. I have a little 3 year old grandson who greeted me and hugged me for the first time, last month, because of Jeddy’s blend. His little brain slowed down enough to realize I was there and I am his grandma. He is also talking so much better. Thank you to you and your sisters for share-ing with us your private lives and the things you find that helps you with them. The natural reflux recipe going to help a lot too. I’ve had reflux also, for too long. You are so sweet to think of others. THANKS!

Laurie, there are lots of brands out there to try and I’ve tried my share. Since using Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil I’m sold. This coconut oil is very creamy, especially the one gallon pails vs. the smaller glass jars with a smooth, light coconut taste. There’s no pulp and it’s amazing in salves, all my salves are made with it. I also oil pull with it, put it in our smoothies and wash my face with this coconut oil. It’s not the cheapest brand but I love that it’s made in small batches and hand processed retaining as many benefits as possible. This is my affiliate link for Tropical Traditions, should you decide to try it for yourself, it won’t cost you anything extra using this link but it will get you a free book on coconut oil if this would be your first purchase!

That’s worth considering, taking pure Frankincense daily is actually a very healthy practice. If acid reflux is a frequent issue for you I would try this for a few days and see if it does indeed work as a preventative.

May 10, 2017

Could this be used for prevention? The problem.with waiting until you feel the burn is.that the damage is already done in the esophagus which can cause cancer. What about mixing frank and lemon together daily?

I think it could definitely help! Gastritis can be caused by the same bacteria as acid reflux so it would definitely be worth a try.

I love your blog!!! You and your sister Jillee are doing great things for us readers! I certainly have learned a lot!
Do you have to mix the frankincense in with the coconut oil in order for it to help with AR? I have the coconut oil, but not the frankincense.
Would I still use 1 tsp of coconut oil?

My husband has been suffering from Acid Reflux ever since he started RA medications. We have tried everything and dislike the side effects of the pharma meds. I just made this for him and he was thrilled that the next time he burped his throat wasn’t on fire! Keep up the amazing work!

The shelf life is a one year, citrus oils have a shorter shelf life than other non-citrus oils. Take as needed or before you eat something that may cause a flare up. For arthritis please look at the Aches and Pains category on my website :)

I have fibromyalgia and use a mixture of oils to rub on my body daily. I also have acid reflux and take pantoprazole daily. I want to try the coconut oil and frankincense oil mixture. Is the frankincense oil the same kind as used for rubbing on the body or used for perfume?
Is it sold at Sprouts?
Thank you

My son has acid reflux, and am pretty postive he would not take this by the spoon full, not even 1/2. lol Could I fill a capsule w/the coconut oil and add Frankincense to it? I tried the lemongrass and he hated it and will not do that again.
Thanks for all of your info!!

Have been reviewing all your info for acid reflux. I am on a lot of reflux meds and it has still gotten really bad this last week. Could I try the coconut oil and frankincensene while taking the meds and then taper off if it seems to help.

Yes, topical absolutely! It’s best that children don’t take EOs internally in most cases. Dilute and rub on belly, 1/2 dose for the little ones!

If using this for a newborn would you dilute and just rub on tummy? I’m a bit hesitant to have him ingest it. We also have a 22 mo. old who suffers from AR and is on med’s would you dilute this anymore for her age and again just rub on tummy?

I stopped having acid reflux attacks after starting my day with the juice of half a lemon and hot water. If you have a need to sweeten the lemon drink, add a little honey. Lemon juice becomes alkaline in the body. I like to wait at least 15 minutes before having breakfast. My acid reflux attacks stopped after 5 days of starting with the lemon and I have been free from acid reflux attacks for some years.

Try it, you will be truly amazed

You can do either Virginia, whatever appeals to you most. If you swallow it without a capsule, make you sure you blend it with something soothing like coconut oil or almond milk.
