This protocol is more than treating symptoms, it's preventing them too! Make this practice a habit and enjoy fewer dental bills, stronger teeth, healthier gums, whiter teeth and overall wellness to boot! I have a theory that you may not agree with but if experience is the best teacher, I've been schooled. This is my story - good, bad or indifferent take it in and file it accordingly. Lets face it, our teeth are under assault daily from sugary foods, acidic soft drinks, coffee and many other delights. Many commercial toothpastes are under fire for potentially toxic ingredients that may be undermining our oral and overall health, if your mouth is full of infection your body will follow suit. When I was a single mom of 5, with no dental insurance, I explored self care because DDS appointments weren't an option. To preface this not so exciting time of my life, I've been a believer in plant based health care for decades, herbs are magical in my book and after trying herbal rinses, natural toothpastes etc. I stumbled upon oil pulling and shortly after that, essential oils. Game on people! In my experience, the two together are the holy grail of plant based oral health for the ability to pull toxins, reduce bacteria responsible for plaque build-up, gum disease and recession, tooth decay and gum sensitivity.
Here's the basics - you need 20 minutes (during a shower etc), high quality, unrefined, organic virgin coconut oil and in my opinion, two essential oil blends - for different reasons.
With Clove, Cinnamon Bark, Lavender, Lemon, Eucalyptus and Rosemary, CW Lavender Thieves Immunity Blend is a great choice for a preventative routine. This is a Thieves type blend with antiseptic, antibacterial, antiviral and anti-infectious properties to stimulate the immune system and guard against sore throats, cold and flu and respiratory illness such as pneumonia and bronchitis. The addition of Lavender tempers the blend, adding even more restorative properties to a soothing protective blend.

I would love to start oil pulling. I’ve read great things about it. But, I’ve also read that it tends to cause crowns to become loose and come out. I’m a little hesitant since I have five crowns! What are your thoughts on this? Thanks!!
Sharon, all I can share with you is that if I were in the same situation as you are right now, I wouldn’t hesitate! I would use the Nerve Pain & Block Blend, Helichrysum is an incredible, cellular/tissue regenerative essential oil that can really make a difference.
I’ve been Oil Pulling only for the past 6 months and I’m addicted!
My mouth feels refreshed, teeth feel really clean and I love the “Cups!” for convenience.
I have 2 silicon trays each of Dots and Hearts; found them at Kitchen Collection for cheap! Dots for Oil Pulling and Hearts for eating my Coconut Oil; store in fridge (hearts) and freezer (dots); I place a small canister on the bathroom counter with few Dots and its handy for the morning reach before the shower!
With the total 4 trays, I’m set for several weeks!
Gotta love your site and all your info, Rebecca!
Life is Good! Thank you!!!
My fillings are fine and so are my Mother-in-law’s crowns, bridge, and fillings. Our dentist told us that oil pulling will do NOTHING to properly installed dental work. He said as long as we aren’t constantly pulling with a citrus oil, there’s no cause to worry. He also oil pulls and has for almost 7 years. His own dental work is also fine.
Would you prescribe this same protocol for existing gum disease? I have some gum pockets measuring at 9 and 10. The dentist wants me to go to the surgeon for scaling. But scaling requires a serious round of antibiotics that I just can’t go through right now. I’m dealing with some autoimmunity issues and antibiotics would just further damage an already delicate balance. If you would not recommend this protocol, what would you recommend?
I have a couple of crowns and quite a few filling and have been oil pulling for years, I decided that the benefits were worth the risk and for me, the risk has been worth it.
Hi Lori, thanks for the question. I like to use 2 drops cup or, use.
Maybe I missed it…but how many drops of essential oil per cup of coconut oil when making cups?
