Mouth Paste

featured products
Mouth Paste Mouth Paste was inspired by the 21 Day Sugar Detox led by Balanced Bites last month which my daughter Jennifer and I accomplished successfully woot woot!  We're still avoiding processed foods, gluten and sugar, eating as clean as we possibly can.  One of the challenges of making changes is not being able to chew gum or pop a breath mint, such a simple thing but impossible if you're avoiding processed anything!  Like you, I need to freshen my breath on occasion when I'm away from my toothbrush. My idea is stupid easy but it works so well as a healthy breath freshener I had to share :) If you have coconut oil and a few pure essential oils like Peppermint, Cinnamon, Cassia or Spearmint you got this.

How to Make (stupid easy) Mouth Paste

Small amounts are best unless you have a village to share it with!
  • 1/4 cup organic coconut oil (melted)
  • 6 to 8 drops pure Peppermint essential oil or any other that you prefer.  FYI:  If adding Cinnamon add 4 drops then check for the "hot" factor before adding more.
  • Optional:  1 drop of liquid Stevia for sweet.  It's really not needed but I'll give you the option anyway :)
  • 2 one ounce glass jars
1 ounce glass jars are my favorite size for a lot of things including my salves, they're very portable and refillable.  Just put the jars in the dishwasher, they wash up great. All that's left to do now is pour and let the jars sit until the coconut oil has solidified.   Stupid easy, right? Let's talk about the ingredients of Mouth Paste.  Organic coconut oil is a widely available product and it's health benefits are astounding!  Putting coconut oil in your mouth throughout the day to freshen your breath is a simple way to increase your coconut oil intake.  Mouth Paste can double as a lip balm and Peppermint will plump your lips naturally!  Its safe for your littles ones should they find it your purse.  It's also a hand sanitizer in a pinch.  I feel just fine about using my finger to dip into Mouth Paste because both coconut oil and pure essential oils are anti-bacterial...naturally! Think about iForget about it!  Try something new, wean yourself from the everyday toxins that we tend not to give much thought to like gum and mints.  Read the labels and choose wisely or make your own breath fresheners like Mouth Paste!  I'm sure most of you reading this post have coconut oil and an essential oil or two.  If not, it's time to welcome them into your life :)

Just want to tell you how much I like the “new” look to your blog. It’s much easier on my old eyes and very clear.

Good work!

I am completely sold and a believer in this coconut oil from Tropical Traditions. It’s organic and hand processed, makes the most incredible salves magnifying their effectiveness. This is my affiliate link, it won’t cost you a dime more to order but it’s worth considering as your choice of coconut oil.

This sounds like a great idea. I spent the afternoon at Whole Foods looking at different coconut oils, some say the taste of coconut,, one I have purchased and it had a smell like butter. Not thrilled to mix my oils with. What are some good ones to use?

I wonder if you can incorporate gelatin somehow and make little chewy bites? I have difficulty avoiding gum, and haven’t really thought of a substitute.

Would like to purchase the gum from http://www.simplygum.com/ do you have a coupon code to use perhaps? I quit smoking a few years ago and I chew a ton of gum……. I am going to try the mouth paste also. I honestly did not realize all the garbage that was in my sugar free gum

This is a great idea!
I like Sara’s idea about making gum or possibly a gummy bear sort of breath mint. I like easy and I’m guessing someone has already figured out a way to do this!
I have been using peppermint oil mixed with a carrier oil on my tongue. (also use it when I feel a headache coming on and for nausea). But I like the coconut oil idea better.

Cinnamon is also a lip plumper…I have an upper denture and I also quit smoking 10 years ago, I was an avid gum chewer afterwards, then one of my bridges broke and could not be fixed, I found that I could chew Ice with my Denture, however I think I’m driving my co-workers insane, I found a gum that doesn’t stick to dentures, it’s loaded with all those nasty ingredients, I have it just in case I need to chew, and my mouth tastes nasty from lunch or what ever…I will deffinetaly make some of the “Mouth Paste,” I just wonder if the gum you mentioned sticks to dentures? I so miss my gum. Oh and by the way I do not miss my smokes, just sayin!

You can swirl it around your mouth a bit and then swallow it.

Hi. I love this idea, and I’m so excited to try it.
Maybe I’m a little clueless, but what do you do with it? Just put it on your tongue? Rub it around your teeth? Chew it and swallow it?
Thanks so much! I love your website!

You’ll just need a little bit to freshen your breath and you get to swallow it, it’s good for you!

Sorry for the stupid question: what do you do with it once it’s in your mouth? Do you swirl it around and then spit it out or swallow it?
