Magnesium Carrier Oil & Deodorant

featured products

I've long been a fan of blending pure essential oils with organic carriers and remedy bases like organic manuka honey, organic hand processed coconut oil, alcohol-free witch hazel, and Naked Salve.  Recently, I've added a new one to my list of favorites, magnesium oil!  After researching magnesium deficiency and the symptoms a deficiency can trigger, it was a no-brainer to incorporate magnesium any way I could using them right along with my EOs.

I recently shared how to make your own magnesium oil, it's incredibly simple and only two ingredients are needed.  Be sure to jump over and to learn how to make your own and, how important it is that our bodies operate with an adequate amount magnesium. "Magnesium is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. It helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function, keeps heart rhythm steady, supports a healthy immune system, and keeps bones strong.

Magnesium also helps regulate blood sugar levels, promotes normal blood pressure, and is known to be involved in energy metabolism and protein synthesis. There is an increased interest in the role of magnesium in preventing and managing disorders such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes.” Some of the best news of all? Magnesium is safe for the whole family!  Even infants benefit. The tiny ones need approximately 30mg daily from birth to 7 months.

While it's ultimately best to get magnesium from our food and water modern farming and fluoridated water is making it harder and harder to get magnesium naturally.  Using simple supplements like magnesium oil in a roller bottle blend or spray bottle protocol is smart way to add just a little more magnesium from the tiniest to the tallest in your family! Speaking of the tiniest, just as we dilute our essential oil for babies, dilution is important with magnesium oil as well. To make magnesium oil for the whole family, follow instructions {HERE}.

DILUTION -  Infants and young children under six:  Dilute magnesium oil by 50% simply by adding more distilled water. Magnesium has no known ill side effects however, it can cause a tingling, borderline stinging sensation the first few times you use it especially just out of the shower or bath when pores are wide open.  You can dilute it further with distilled water or, wait 5 minutes to let the magnesium in then diffuse the sensation by applying coconut oil or a natural moisturizer.  Too much magnesium can cause loose stools, cut back on usage if this occurs. FYI:  If you've used magnesium oil or gel you know that after it dries your skin will feel like you just walked out of ocean and dried off in the sun, it's something to get used to. Applying to the bottoms of feet, is the optimal application for magnesium carrier/remedy base, you won't notice that salty residue at all!

Magnesium Oil Roller Bottle Protocols:

Aches and Pain Remedies are excellent candidates for magnesium oil carrier, sufficient magnesium benefits joints, muscles and can ease arthritis symptoms. Sleep Remedies are fabulous choices!  Magnesium is known as the "silver bullet" for sleep.  Lots of studies show that adequate amounts of magnesium in the body can help insomnia, sleep disorders and disrupted sleep! Jeddy's Blend for ADHD and anxiety is a perfect match for magnesium oil.  Studies show that proper magnesium levels in the body can help alleviate ADHD and stress symptoms. Here's the source for my favorite 5ml  roller bottles with metal balls roller balls {as shown above} and, magnesium chloride bath flakes for more effective and long lasting magnesium supplementation.  Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate which is another good alternative.  However, if you do a little research you'll find like I did that magnesium chloride is an all around better choice and the BEST choice for magnesium oil.

Magnesium Deodorant Protocol:

Once you make and start using magnesium oil you'll be amazed at the many applications you'll discover for its use!  This is my latest.  Yet another DIY healthy deodorant alternative brought to you by pure essential oils and magnesium oil.  Simply fill a small spray bottle with magnesium oil, add 10 drops per 2 ounce bottle of any pure essential oils of choice and be sure to shake before use.  I can't wait to hear what you think about the results! Mag Oil

That's all for now!  Do yourself a favor and do all you can to increase your magnesium levels. Your calcium absorption will improve, vitamin D intake will be more effective and you just might sleep better, be more regular, handle stress like a boss and help your heart out.

after reading your post the other day about magnesium I was thinking about a deodorant. Actually wondering if it could be added to the solid deodorant. Might have to try this though as it is much easier. I have had some problems with the solid – after a while it turns my pits dark – then they get red and irritated (so I use the allergy salve I made) then the dark “peels” off and back to normal. Strange. So now I don’t use it everyday.

I wouldn’t recommend it Anna, here’s a source that can help you make a decision.

Do you know of any way to make a oral magnesium supplement? I have found a few on the market to buy but they are so expensive, since I really need to take it everyday… Thank you, I love your webpage you have helped me in so many ways :)

I was wondering about adding it to the solid as well. From the earlier post it sounds like magnesium is better absorbed in liquid but does that mean it needs to be applied in liquid form or just the flakes dissolved? In other words would the magnesium be as absorb-able if added to the solid deodorant recipe (haha, couldn’t decide whether to call it a formula or recipe, still not sure)?

I have a question about Magnesium Chloride…I have a bag of magnesium chloride that I use in my aquarium. Is it the same thing? Would there be any reason why I couldn’t use it to make the magnesium oil plus and mag carrier oil? Thanks in advance!

I have been using Jeddys blend and a magnesium oil spray on my 3 year old feet. Can I mix magnesium oil, Jeddys and fractionated coconut oil in the roller ball? What amounts would u recommend. I also just made a lavender balm. Would it be too much to use all of them at night?

Primal pits makes a stick deodorant that has magnesium in it, I would like to use it in a solid also, not sure though if you would add magnesium oil, or open a capsule of magnesium into the mixture. Love what the magnesium does for the body, this would be a great addition!!

Thank you Raissa that’s very nice to hear :) I’ve never made a magnesium supplement for oral use, that’s something I would get a professional’s opinion on.

I’m curious as to why you only add 10 drops of EOs to 2 ounces of Magnesium oil, but with the Witch Hazel recipe, the ratio is 30 drops to 1 ounce.

Good for you, you won’t be sorry you endured the detox :) There’s really no need to add witch hazel to the magnesium oil, keep it simple!

Can you add Witch Hazel to this recipe too or just stick with the magnesium oil? I have been doing the armpit detox for a week now and have only noticed a little odor coming from my usually-noxious pits! and no complaints from my family either! YAY! Trying to push through for another week and then try this deodorant. Thank you!

This makes the greatest deodorant! I thought it sounded outrageous… then tried it… I was outside in the hot sun all day sweating through my clothes and still didn’t stink! Miraculous. I added Lavender EO to mine. It consistently works well and I’m so happy it’s super easy and doesn’t cause a rash/irritation like my old homemade deodorant.

Jeddy’s Blend is already properly diluted with fractionated coconut oil but you can further dilute if you prefer. Your Lavender balm sounds lovely! You could massage a little on your son’s feet after the magnesium oil has had a change to be absorbed, I always like to moisturize at that point to get rid of the dry salt residue left on the skin.

I am curious what EO you would use for a 16 year old boy. We have tried everything to help with his need to use deodorant in the morning and takes a stick to school and uses it at lunch or he will kill his friends on the bus with his odor.

Thanks! I can’t wait to try this.

Do you think addingsome fractionated coconut oil to magnesium deodorant would take away some of the sting that can occur when using magnesium? If so, how much would you recommend adding to the 2 oz. bottle?

I’ve tried the scented magnesium oil for deodorant. Love it!

I’m just moving away from a commercial deodorant/antiperspirant, and I suffered from smelly pits. I also live in Tampa, FL, where summer is our predominant season.

Can I say that I just love it! I mixed a lavendar essential oil with my home-made magnesium oil, and put it in a small plastic spray bottle. Each morning, I give it a quick shake to mix, spray a little on my hand, and rub it on. I may still get a little wetness, but no more smelly pits! The addded benefit is that the magnesium oil is so good for you.

Thanks!

I made this deodorant and picked Clove and Ylang Ylang for my EO’s. It smells lovely. It works as well as what I was previously using (Degree). I live in Arizona, so I can say it works well in the heat! No smell and little sweating. Then I tried using it when we went on vacation to Florida. It was 92 degrees and 60% humidity. We ran around Busch Gardens all day riding rides and getting wet. Deodorant never stopped working. I love this deodorant! Thanks so much for the recipe. The only slightly bad thing that happened was that I used it immediately after shaving my underarms and it stung a little and left a few red bumps. Next time I’ll wait an hour or so before applying to avoid this reaction.

I just started using mag oil. I was applying it to my arms b/c it was easy but I’ve developed some dry patchy areas and bumps. I think it’s too harsh. Anyone experience this or have an idea. I’m now spraying on my feet instead but I don’t want to create itchy dry feet either. Thanks for all feedback

Hi Rebecca, I’m sure I won’t like the salty residue feel on my skin, so I think applying the magnesium oil to my feet would be a perfect solution. With the cold and flu season upon us, I was wondering if I wanted to add Shield to either a 2 oz spray bottle or 10 ml roller bottle how many drops of Shield would you recommend?

You might try Lavender, Melaleuca and Frankincense together. There might be a need to experiment with different combinations of EOs…also a good ACV detox could be of help, perhaps on weekends :)
