Why use a Serum?  Serums are ultra-intensive, lightweight formulas that protect skin with a deep concentration of hydration and nutrients.  Molecules in an essential oil infused serum are smaller and much more concentrated than a regular moisturizer.  A serum can better target issues like age spots, sun damage and fine lines, in the layers beneath your skin's surface.
If you're looking for "on the cheap" DIY beauty treatments you won't find it in this blog post.  What you will find is a rich serum, the "ultimate serum" for it's transforming effectiveness, a direct result of rare essential oils that your skin will respond to beautifully.
Pure Essential Oils

3 drops Frankincense
2 drops Rose
2 drops Helichrysum
2 drops Lavender
2 drops Geranium
2 drops Sandalwood
1 Tablespoon Almond Oil or, organic Emu Oil (an updated serum carrier for deep moisture)
In a 15ml glass bottle, add the essential oils and top with almond or emu oil.
Keep in mind that a serum is meant to use sparingly on a clean face.  After cleansing, add a small drop of serum to your fingertip and dab on fine lines, sun spots, age spots and uneven skin tone, then...moisturize.  I also add a drop to the back of my hands, a reflection of how your skin is aging.

Wouldn’t almond oil alone make a good moisturizer? I have been using coconut oil but it is a bit drying in this drier air of winter.

Do you think Jojoba oil would work in a pinch, or should I strictly stick to the almond oil?

How would this work with the oil cleansing method? Usually I OCM with coconut oil (that has lavender and tea tree oil in it), then use a home made apple cider, honey, and peppermint oil toner. Since the oil is the moisturizer and cleanser, when should I use the serum??? After the toner maybe?

Can we leave the Rose out? I don’t have any, well, I take that back, I do have some, but it’s from Aura Cacia, and I don’t think it’s pure, it has other oils in it like jojoba oil.

Let me know your thoughts.

Just wondering, I have been using avocado oil with melaleuca and lavender for a month and need something stronger. My skin (with eczema and rosacea) is dry in some places. Also the redness of the rosacea has not diminished a bit.

As I mentioned on the post, start with what you have – so yes, the serum will still be beneficial but not the “ultimate” :)

Here’s one of the latest comments on FB:

Rebecca’s awesome “Ultimate Serum for Timeless Skin” is what I use. My neck is my problem area. I’ve been using the serum for a couple of months now and I can tell a distinct difference. I took pictures when I started and I’m going to take some soon to show the difference. It’s pricey to put together, but it’s totally awesome!

How long the blend will last depends on how much you use! I use it on my face and neck morning and night, this small recipe lasts approximately 3 weeks for me because it’s all over application. It will last longer of course if you’re simply applying to fine line areas.

I have been using this blend for about six months now. I am 51 with very dry skin and the lines that come with it. I have never posted a comment or review before but I wanted to say that this is working very well for me. I can most definitely see an improvement in my skin. I use it on my face, neck and chest (side sleeper wrinkles) every morning. I make it a little stronger by reducing the amount of almond oil. Thanks Rebecca for the post. I enjoy your blog as well as your sisters’.

I use straight Emu oil and have no problem blending the oils with it despite the thickness. You certainly could use a 50/50 blend of carriers if that’s your preference!

May 10, 2017

Hi Rebecca,

If I use Emu Oil as the only carrier oil, will the EOs mix well with the Emu Oil? I read that Emu oil is very thick / viscous. So, I was wondering whether or not the EOs will mix well into the emu oil.

Or, do you recommend 50% almond oil and 50% emu oil as carrier oils for this serum. I have both oils, so I am wondering which oil to use for this skin serum. The Emu oil bottle is still unopened.

I was wondering if I could use just this (and not a moisturizer) on my face before putting on my mineral makeup. I don’t have time in the morning to put this on and wait for it to sink in and then put moisturizer. Would this be okay to use by itself before makeup?

Rose Absolute is a product of solvent extraction – it smells nice but doesn’t hold the healing properties of Rose Otto, the pure steam distilled essential oil. You’re certainly welcome to experiment but I can’t tell you what your results will be.

“Solvent Extraction: Solvent extraction happens in three stages, which I’ll share in a highly abbreviated version. First, the rose petals are placed in a drum with an organic solvent, usually hexane or toluene, and rotated. This draws out the aromatic portion of the petals. When the hexane has evaporated, what remains is a thick, waxy substance called a concrete (not used by aromatherapists). Next, the waxes and non-aromatic components are filtered out of the concrete with ethanol alcohol, leaving behind an aromatic liquid we call Rose Absolute.”

Robin,
I have Rose Absolute (made from the concrete) as it’s less pricey than Rose Otto. Will it work?
I’d like to replace part of the Emu oil with Rosehip seed oil, 50/50. What do you think? My mom & I have found Rosacia relief from Tamanu oil. Wondering if that’s something I could incorporate or if it’d be better to just spot treat with the Tamanu first?
Thanks for your help!

Hi everyone :)
I e recently been using Emu Oil, started on just my neck as I read a review from a woman who said it really made a huge difference in her neck, which our skin in the neck is Sooo fragile it seems! Let me say wow! Yes! It’s amazing for well, the neck, but now I’m using it o. My face and chest also! Hands when they feel dry! I use Neroli in my EO blend also, I read the benefits but I especially love the scent like im addicted to it! I
Mix Neroli, aloe juice and a bit of witch hazel in a spray bottle and use it as ? A setting spray .. Unsure of what exactly to call it but if you happen to use a
Mineral powder… As I do but not REAL happy with it as I can see it… After using the powder I hold the spray bottle about 12" from my fave and mist just once or twice, wow! What a difference it makes! Looks like there’s nothing in my skin yet the powder is still there! It makes my skin glow naturally no blush or color needed on my face and seems to keep the powder fresh looking all day! I use it everywhere! Body spray hair it helps cool me down in the summer! LOVE it! Now! Can’t wait to make this serum as I believe I have it all here! I think I will mix half Emu and half Avocado Oil… It helps everything penetrate a little deeper, as far as carrier oils go, I know th EO’s are already into the bloodstream bc I can taste them! I love essential oils! Idk what I word do without them!!! Have a wonderful day, and New 2916 everyone! May we all learn something new everyday! Peace
